Conservatory Blinds

It is a fact that will amaze most people but the cost of furnishing a conservatory can often outweigh the cost of the conservatory itself. One of the most costly items and one of the most critical are the blinds. A common complaint about conservatories and sunrooms is that they are too hot in summer and too cold in winter. It's seems strange as well that having gone to all the effort of letting light in by building a structure largely out of glass, that great time and expense goes into keeping the light out. However, the excessive light can cause discomfort on bright days from the exaggerated glare and damage to expensive furniture from harmful UV light. Also, in winter conservatories can get very cold as warmth escapes through the un-insulated walls and roof. It is the heat in the summer though that causes most problems particularly as many conservatories adjoin the kitchen with the intention of being used primarily as dining rooms. Solar blinds which reflect heat in the summer and retain it in the winter are increasingly popular.

Conservatory blinds, therefore, are not just for decorative means, but also play a vital part making a conservatory function properly and realise the potential enjoyment it can bring. The decision to install blinds is the easy one. The decision which style and type of blind is much harder. There are three basic styles – pinoleum blinds, pleated blinds and roller blinds. These come in a variety of materials, including reflective blinds, and you can choose to have remote controlled or automatic so they adjust to the outside temperature and brightness.

Another factor for having blinds is to ensure privacy. It is likely for many properties that the back garden is overlooked from at least one direction.

So these are all factors to consider when choosing your blinds. We would suggest that you do as much research as you can and talk to friends and family with conservatories about there experiences. Also, talk to the experts and get some quotes. As always with these things it is best to get it right first time.
